Playing

Hello! Following my recent post inspired by cellos and basses, I’ve been looking and drawing more musicians, this time concentrating on their faces while they play. Arguably, the most amazing face belonged to cellist Paul Tortelier, a wonderful and much-missed musician. The drawings I’ve made of him here are a start and I’ll have to practice more, but I wanted to include them. You’ll see that I left the watercolour off in two of them as I felt the lines were enough. Here are my drawings:

I’m a mixed media visual artist working in Leicestershire in the UK. I trained in Fine Art using different media including oils and acrylics, but my recent work reflects my love of drawn media, especially pen, ink, watercolour and pastels. My theme is movement – My subjects are varied from landscape, animals, musicians, dancers and sport, especially cycling. The unifying feature of all these subjects is that they are constantly changing – there is movement and energy everywhere.
