Tour de France 2017: Stage 1 – Düsseldorf

Hello! The opening stage of 2017 Tour de France took place on a very wet day in Düsseldorf. It was an individual time trial for all riders around the city. In spite of the rain, spirits and expectations were high and the fans were out steadfastly in the rain for hours, supporting the riders. This first picture shows the umbrellas lining the course and one very cautious rider picking his way through the puddles!

I’m a mixed media visual artist working in Leicestershire in the UK. I trained in Fine Art using different media including oils and acrylics, but my recent work reflects my love of drawn media, especially pen, ink, watercolour and pastels. My theme is movement – My subjects are varied from landscape, animals, musicians, dancers and sport, especially cycling. The unifying feature of all these subjects is that they are constantly changing – there is movement and energy everywhere.
