Hello! It’s a good time to visit the city of Leicester, especially if you like original art. There are two annual exhibitions running at present, featuring work by members of the Leicester Society of Artists and its close companion, the Leicester Sketch Club. These two venerable organisations have had a presence in the city since the 1890s and both feature different aspects of the city’s visual arts scene. The LSC’s show runs at the newly-converted Old Music Library, Belvoir Street until 27 November. This is a great adaptation of a unique building, well-worth a visit.
The LSA’s show, just opened, runs until 16th December at the New Walk Museum – just a short walk along New Walk. Not only will you be rewarded with a diverse collection of paintings and drawings, you will also have the treat of seeing the inspirational collection of German Expressionists work held in Leicester’s collection – as well as the gorgeous collection of Picasso ceramics bequeathed to the city by Lord Richard Attenborough. Truly inspiring!
