Tour de France 2020: Coming soon…

Hello and bonjour! After all that has happened in 2020, it’s hard to believe that this year’s Tour will start at the end of the week.

To whet your appetite, I will share some images that I have made over the years and that I hope you will enjoy…

This first set shows some of the crowds and bystanders who are so much a part of this race. I wonder quite how this will be in 2020?

Look at all the people!
Stage 11, Leaving Albertville
Stage 19 – Hard going
Coming up the hill, part one, Stage 16

This is a special favourite, as the photographer in the Hull FC shirt is a pal. I really loved making this one, thank you Mike and Judy, 🙂

Coming up the hill! Col de la Forclaz – SOLD
Stage 21 – Think he might just be from Oz!
Fans on the mountains! Stage 17

I also love to see the fans from all round the world…the Dutch have their own place, a vision of orange, love them!

Orange! – Dutch corner

  1. Fewer fans, fewer campervans, everyone in masks, it’s going to be strange to say the least. I’ll be working as a volunteer while the Tour is in town which should be fun!

  2. Brings back memories, especially Dutch Corner on Alpes d’Huez, which I cycled through on the morning the 100th Tour came through. Totally nuts & your painting captures this so well. What is can’t capture, of course, is the noise of bad, thumping europop and the pushes on your back as you come through plus the odd Allez Ecosse on the way (I had a Scottish Flag 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 on the back of my bike). Altogether a bizarre experience!!

  3. Aren’t you happy that you will have more inspiration soon for a whole new series! I just love the colours and movement of your art work and the way you make the viewer fill in some of the parts too! I look forward to seeing more of your wonderful art!

  4. Cant wait! Hope it goes well considering what everyone is up against ~ a whole new competitor to outrun. The scene from Col de la Forclaz is magnificent!

    • Thank you for your lovely message! I agree, it’s very exciting and I can’t wait either! It will be really fascinating this year. Thank you also for your appreciation of the Col de la Forclaz painting. I really enjoyed making that piece and it was magical that it came together the way it did, one of those special pictures for which I am very grateful!
Enjoy the race at the weekend and thank you again for getting in touch, very much appreciated xx
