Tour de France 2020: Stage 1 – Peloton on the Promenade
Second image from Stage 1 – and one I really enjoyed making – and have been looking forward to making – as it shows the peloton on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice. One of my favourite arists is Raoul Dufy – and this was one of his favourite places. I make no bones about the fact that it is his style that inspires my pictures – in so many ways. His lovely use of colour and line, along with the movement and joie de vivre that his pictures convey – If mine were to come anywhere close, I would be a very happy woman! If you don’t know his pictures, I urge you to have a look, because they will make you smile and bring colour to any dull day!
I’m a contemporary artist working in Leicestershire in the UK. I trained in Fine Art using different media including oils and acrylics, but my recent work is a return to my love of drawn media, especially pen, ink, watercolour and pastels. My theme is movement – My subjects are varied from landscape, animals, musicians, dancers and sport, especially cycling. The unifying feature of all these subjects is that they are constantly changing – even in a landscape there is movement everywhere! I capture the energy of elusive moments often starting with a quick pen and ink drawing. I write and publish my artworks on a blog called ‘Racing Lines’.
