Swiss breakaway, 166.6KM, watercolour, pen and ink with gouache, by Maxine Dodd

After the drama of Stage 9, the anxious wait of the rest day, it was good to get racing again, this time on the Atlantic coast. For the first time, a stage started from one island and finished on another. Blue skies and tricky cross winds were challenging conditions for all the teams.

This first image shows the breakaway that unfolded soon after the start, with two Swiss riders, Michael Schär (CCC)and Stefan Küng (FDJ), riding together, setting a strong pace for the peloton which continued throughout the day.
