Tour de France 2020: Stage 11 – The roar of the sprint
Stage 11’s sprint was a loud affair! I expect most of them are, but I really noticed the sound of the crowd as the riders came through. I wondered how I could convey that – and wound up making strong brush marks, like beats, trying to mimic the hands clattering on the roadside boards. I couldn’t manage the cheering though!
I’m a contemporary artist working in Leicestershire in the UK. I trained in Fine Art using different media including oils and acrylics, but my recent work is a return to my love of drawn media, especially pen, ink, watercolour and pastels. My theme is movement – My subjects are varied from landscape, animals, musicians, dancers and sport, especially cycling. The unifying feature of all these subjects is that they are constantly changing – even in a landscape there is movement everywhere! I capture the energy of elusive moments often starting with a quick pen and ink drawing. I write and publish my artworks on a blog called ‘Racing Lines’.
