Tour de France 2020: Stage 12 – Camera in the trees
This first image from Stage 12 was an interesting challenge – I was first attracted by the long peloton disappearing into the trees and the dark shade – lovely lines and contrasts. Then I noticed the cameraman taking his photo on the right – posing the usual problem that artists encounter when painting shadows – Shadows are not black, and when you look carefully, there are just as many details to see in the shadows as there are in the light. Never easy but great to try!
I’m a mixed media visual artist working in Leicestershire in the UK. I trained in Fine Art using different media including oils and acrylics, but my recent work reflects my love of drawn media, especially pen, ink, watercolour and pastels. My theme is movement – My subjects are varied from landscape, animals, musicians, dancers and sport, especially cycling. The unifying feature of all these subjects is that they are constantly changing – there is movement and energy everywhere.
