A wonderful journey

It’s coming up to the anniversary of my blog ‘Racing Lines’ – My first post was made on 7th July 2012… Just text and no images to try WordPress and see what I could do. In seven years, the blog has taken me to lots of places and I’ve met some lovely people and made friends – It’s been a great adventure – just with my pens, watercolours and pastels – and my laptop.  Today, I discovered that the number of people following ‘Racing Lines’ has risen to 3,000, which I find quite incredible. WordPress tells me that there have…

Drawing February: My studio

Hello! Drawing in February is going to be great if today’s weather holds. It’s so sunny in my little studio that I’ve opened the windows to let in the fresh air. The sun is casting a shadow across my drawing just now, so I thought it would be good time to pause, take some photos and share with you. Following last week’s snowdrops, I’ve been working with pastel again – the colours are so alive, they’re great. My subject this week has been cycling, at the point just before the riders cross the line – a ‘heads down’ sprint, you might…

Experiments

Hello! It’s a time of year when things are drawing to a close but it’s a time when I like to look back over recent work and experiment with new ideas. I’ve been working on a few things lately with several themes in mind but all linked by the thread of people drawn together to see or witness something in a crowd, either willingly or forced. A beautiful day

Hello! Saturday was a lovely day in my part of Leicestershire. I was on my way to meet up with friends, but had to pull over as I passed this field for a quick sketch – just a peaceful sight – a field recently harvested with a distant red kite calling in the distance and a mysterious creaking sound coming from the trees – I never discovered what made the sound but it was great to listen as I drew. Here is the drawing which I included for yesterday’s #DrawingAugust project:

Still life

Hello! Still working through the daily drawing challenge, #DrawingAugust, I’m finding that I’m drawing all sorts of things! Today, I made a little still life, something I’ve not done for a long time – Happy drawing!

A bit of a challenge…

For a bit of fun, have a go at the challenge to do a drawing every day through August. You make a drawing, scan or photograph it and send it via Twitter to #DrawingAugust.  Here is the one I made earlier today – a preparatory study of cyclists for a new oil painting inspired by the Tour de France. Happy drawing!
