Hello! Back to sporting action – a first for me as I’ve never drawn football before, ironically as it’s the first sport I followed as a child. The World Cup is on in Brazil and of course, the expectations are high for the host team. The massive Fortaleza stadium was ablaze with colour and could barely contain the sound of the passion of the Brazilian National Anthem. It was a hard-fought and fast game but ended in a draw – fairly in my view, as both teams were brilliant! Here are my drawings:
Hello! This weekend sees the third venerable sporting event that, in my mind, means that Spring has finally arrived, the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, USA. It’s a great contest between the best players on one of the finest courses in the world. The sun has shone brightly and the greens are fast and tricky to play. I love this tournament but have never drawn it before, so it’s a great challenge to capture it. More to follow but these are my first attempts. Here a my drawings:
Hello! Following on swiftly from one of the world’s oldest horse races, came one of the oldest rowing races – the battle on the Thames between the crews of Oxford and Cambridge Universities. It is an international event these days and its 160th running attracted a huge audience, not only on TV but every square-inch of land on the riverbanks and bridges lining the route. People must have glimpsed the boats for a few seconds as they went by. The skies were grey, the river choppy and for Cambridge fans, a slip in the water barely five minutes into the race sealed their team’s fate….
Hello! The success of the Paralympic Games in Sochi was great to see. Team GB were the UK’s most successful Winter Olympians ever, simply amazing. I’ve made a collection of drawings from both events as a new page, with a little reminder here. Spring is well on its way and time to leave the snow behind. Thank you for following, see you very soon. Here are my drawings:
Hello! Something of a contrast today in Sochi, where the snow came down in an almighty blizzard. Colour obliterated by very harsh conditions which pushed athletes to their limits, but still a great day of skiing. Here are my drawings:
Hello! How wonderful it is to see Sochi again with the start of the Paralympic Games! This post is dedicated to the brilliant Team GB skiers, Kelly Gallagher and Jade Etherington with their guides, Charlotte Evans and Caroline Powell. Brilliant performances from them have seen a haul of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, the first British women so to do. Brilliant! Here are my drawings:
Hello! The last few days coming up. I noticed that there are many shades of blue all over the place – not least in the eyes of Team GB’s Women’s Curling team, which I have found very difficult to capture! But there is the blue of the night sky, blues of team uniforms and the emotional blues that this great event is coming to an end. Here are my drawings:
