A tribute win for Alaphilippe, watercolour, pen and ink, by Maxine Dodd

This final image from Stage 2 shows Julian Alaphilippe, who took the stage win in blistering form, closely followed by Marc Hirschi, the young Swiss rider. The moment I chose was a view from the back, as they crossed the line, Alaphilippe’s finger raised high, backlit by the sun. He is a rider full of talent and promise – one who is always exciting to watch. This was a fantastic start to his Tour campaign.

At the finish, Alaphilippe broke down and disclosed at the press interview that his win was dedicated to his father, whom he lost in June. This is an image filled with emotion and a hugely emotional moment for the young man. A wonderful tribute from son to father.

Have a good day 🙂
